World Day for Safety & Health at Work 2024

April 20th, 2024

This years theme for the World Day for Safety & Health at Work 2024 is ensuring a healthy and safe work environment in a changing climate. It’s a great and timely theme as climate change is affecting us all.

As a company we want to be sustainable and environmentally aware so we’ve been working on initiatives to help our employees have a health and safe working environment as well as being mindful of our overall environmental impact.

So what have we been doing?

Electric HGV’s – our first fully electric artic unit is out on the road completing Palletline delivery and collections each day. The challenge for widely adopting these will be the charging infrastructure. We’ve invested in an onsite fast charger but further afield the options are limited.

Solar energy generation – we have a small array on the entrance to the site as well as a large PV array on the warehouse roof that was installed back in 2017.

Electric cars – whilst we might not have the largest company car fleet (we only have two) both of our directors have been driving electric for a number of years.

LED lighting – our motion sensing and environmentally friendly LED lights across the site allows us an energy efficient lighting solution that means our team have sufficient light, when needed.

Environmentally friendly fuel – there’s no getting away from diesel for the majority of our fleet, but the blend we buy in, including a percentage of vegetable oil, helps reduce the impact of our vehicles where possible.

Our business model – being part of Palletline, the award winning multi hub pallet network – also helps us maximise our efficiency and reduce dead mileage.

Its not all about the big projects too…

Working outside on a fork lift in the wind and cold can chill you right through. We make sure that the team have the right uniform, gloves, hats and handwarmers as well as a toasty warm social area for breaks.

When the heat comes, we take care to make sure that the team have access to water, ice lollies, cool packs as well as showers with toiletries on site so that they can freshen up.

We want to be mindful of our environmental impact as well as making sure that we do as much as possible for our team.

What can you do to keep your work team safe and healthy? #SafeWorkDay2024
