Preserving memories: a truck takes a dive

We’ve been going through our old archives and found this old photo of an Edge driver clearly having a bad day.
If anyone can help fill in the blanks then please get in touch, but this is what we think happened:
Our driver was round the back roads in Wrexham when a vehicle coming the other way decided to overtake and came face to face with the Edge truck.
Our driver had a split second to consider his two options – swerve to avoid the collision or hit the oncoming car. He decided to take evasive action and ended up in the water. No one was injured as a result – the best outcome. Apparently the driver knew he was in trouble when his cup of drink started to float…..
Pete Edge and the lads came to the rescue and the truck was towed out of the water. The load hadn’t shifted (we do secure our loads well!) so back to the yard it went complete with a very soggy driver. Now, most of the Edge drivers had a nickname back in the day… we’re not sure what this driver endured for years afterwards but I am sure this was a day he remembered for a while!
