Stock Checks That Take Off: How Drones Are Revolutionising Our Warehouse
March 9th, 2026
Warehouses are getting smarter — and in our case, they’re also getting airborne.
We’ve recently introduced drones into our stock-check process, and the results have been transformative. What used to be a time-consuming, labour-intensive task involving working at height has become more accurate, safer and far less time consuming.
Taking stock checks to new heights
Traditional warehouse stock checks often involve sending team members up to height to manually verify pallet locations and quantities. This process is slow, disruptive to daily operations and carries an inherent element of risk from working at height.
By using drones, we can now scan high-level stock quickly and efficiently from the ground. The drone navigates the racking with precision, capturing images and data in a fraction of the time it would take to carry out a manual count. Entire aisles can be checked in minutes rather than days, allowing us to complete full stock audits with minimal interruption to normal warehouse activity.
Safety first — keeping feet on the ground
One of the biggest benefits is the improvement in safety. Removing the need to use a MEWP (Mobile Elevating Work Platform) for routine stock checks dramatically reduces working-at-height exposure. Our team no longer needs to repeatedly ascend and descend equipment to verify stock, lowering the risk of accidents (however small).
Instead, operators can safely control the drone from the warehouse floor, maintaining clear visibility while keeping themselves and colleagues out of harm’s way. It’s a smarter way of working that aligns perfectly with our commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
Accuracy you can rely on
Drones don’t just work faster — they work smarter. High-resolution imaging and digital recording allow us to review stock data in real time and cross-check it against our systems. This reduces the likelihood of human error and improves the overall accuracy of our inventory.
More accurate stock data means better planning, smoother operations and improved service for our customers. It also enables us to identify discrepancies quickly and resolve them before they become bigger issues.
A smarter future for warehouse operations
Adopting drone technology is part of our wider commitment to innovation and continuous improvement. By combining speed, safety and precision, drone-assisted stock checks are helping us run a more efficient warehouse while protecting our most important asset — our people.
As technology continues to evolve, we’re excited to keep exploring new ways to work smarter, safer and more effectively. And if our stock checks have anything to say about it, the future of warehousing is looking up.
