Sustainability is important to us

We go above and beyond our legal environmental responsibilities to improve our operation and minimise our carbon footprint.

Being an environmentally aware and sustainable business is important to us, our team and our customers. We have a responsibility to protect the environment for now, and for the future

We welcomed our first electric HGV to the fleet in March 2024.

Our new electric truck isn’t just good for the environment, it’s a pleasure to drive. It signals our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and embracing cleaner, greener vehicle solutions.

With on site rapid charging facilities for the artic, as well as electric company car charging points, all powered by our on site solar panels we are reaping the benefits of the technology available to us.

All the energy we use on site is from renewable or nuclear sources, with the majority being generated by the onsite solar panel array that we installed on the warehouse roof back in 2015.

We also use a mix of standard diesel and bio diesel for our non electric trucks, all of which are less than 3 years old and well maintained so they run efficiently and minimise emissions.

We also have a project underway to explore the benefits of HVO fuel (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil Fuel) which would lower our fuel related net-carbon emissions by up to 90% without any engine modifications.

We work with trusted partners and customers across the UK to source back loads and return loads for our vehicles to reduce empty running and improve overall efficiency.

Edge also offer final mile consolidation schemes to local RDC’s and other businesses. We receive product direct into Edge, or via the Palletline network, and deliver on one vehicle into the delivery point. It maximises efficiency and reduces workload for the delivery point.  We can even deliver in overnight using our electric artic unit for the ultimate consolidation service.

Calculating the overall carbon footprint of every pallet we handle – from point of collection through to delivery by either the Edge fleet or via the Palletline network – has been a challenge that we have accepted.

Working with Palletline we’ll soon be able to map out carbon footprint for every pallet we handle, and the network handles for us. This gives us a clear target to focus on as well as giving customers the carbon they need to offset so that their deliveries are truly carbon neutral.

Palletline’s multi-hub model means that its members can input freight into their local regional depot, reducing the distance travelled by 4.5 million miles, when compared to operating into one central hub.

That’s a whopping 7.5 tonnes of CO2 that has been eliminated over a 12-month period.
