Throwback Thursday…. the days Edge was based in Hoole, Chester

We’ve been looking through our old pictures and found this great one of our old site on Hoole Lane in Chester. Back in the day, nestled between the houses, was our old transport yard.
It was a great location for local road links but not without its challenges. As the business grew, the number of trucks grew and getting all the vehicles on site became a bit of a jigsaw puzzle. It wasn’t unusual on a Saturday morning for all the trucks to be loaded, backed out on to the road then reversed into the yard one by one so that come Monday morning the drivers could get on their way quickly.
As Hoole itself became more popular, more houses were built around the yard site. It then became difficult to operate within a residential area and so when our Operators Licence (what you need to operate trucks over 3.5 tonne capacity for hire and reward) was up for renewal there were several objections.
Peter Edge then decided to relocate away from Chester and moved over to the site in Llay in 1989. Over time more houses have been built on the old site and now you wouldn’t be able to tell Edge were ever there!
