Apprentice Appreciation!
February 25th, 2022
February 7th – 13th 2022 marked the 15th annual week-long celebration of apprenticeships!
We caught up with two of our amazing apprentices here at Edge as February isn’t the only month we celebrate having them at the business.
National Apprenticeship Week brings together business and apprentices across the country to shine a light on the positive impact that the apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider economy.
The theme for National Apprenticeship Week this year was to ‘build the future’; reflecting on how apprenticeships can help individuals to develop the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career, and businesses to develop a talented workforce that is equipped with future-ready skills.
Here’s what Charlie and Lewys had to say when we asked them why they chose an apprenticeship here at Edge Transport and what it means to them.
Charlie Woodward – Finance Administrator
Why did you choose the particular apprenticeship with Edge Transport:
I liked the job description and felt like it fitted what I was looking for.
What were the reasons behind choosing an apprenticeship:
I didn’t feel like university was for me and I wanted to gain experience as well as learning so I thought I would try an apprenticeship and see how it goes.
What do you enjoy most about your apprenticeship:
I enjoy using the different systems and seeing how everything works behind the scenes in the finance department. I also enjoy helping out and learning new things with you at month end as it gives me an insight into everything you wouldn’t think you’d have to do from an outside perspective.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years times?
In 5 years I would like to have the qualifications that I need for my career path and future.
Lewys Tudball – Van Driver
Why did you choose the particular apprenticeship with Edge Transport:
I had chosen this particular apprenticeship as it suited my needs and requirements I needed to gain to fulfil my long term career goals.
What were the reasons behind choosing an apprenticeship:
I was seeking a new challenge and wanted the experience and knowledge of what it takes to be a HGV driver.
What do you enjoy most about your apprenticeship:
What I enjoy the most about my apprenticeship is the variety of drivers I get a 1-2-1 with as their years of experiences helps guide me with my understanding and learning of the job.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years times?
I want to achieve my Class 1 and 2 Licences and go for a higher positioned role within the company.
We’re so proud to see how well Charlie and Lewys are doing in their roles. They are a brilliant asset to the business and we’re proud to have them with us on their apprenticeship journey and beyond!
